Preserving Whales: Essential Guardians of Our Oceans and Key Protectors of Marine Ecosystems for a Sustainable Future
At Blue Hope, we are dedicated to the protection and preservation of whales and their ocean habitats. Whales play a vital role in maintaining the balance of marine ecosystems, and their survival is directly linked to the health of our planet.
Through research, conservation efforts, and advocacy, we strive to safeguard these magnificent creatures from extinction.
Our History
The Story Behind
What began as a simple dream from two 12-year-olds — to save the reef around their home — has grown into a powerful community movement. Today, local youth, dive centers, and eco organizations work hand in hand to restore coral reefs, plant trees, and build a more sustainable future for the Gilis.
Youth-Led Island Regeneration
More than reef restoration — this is a movement to protect Gili Air from the impacts of rising over-tourism. Our local youth champions are taking action to restore balance between people and nature:
- Planting 1,000 trees every year to bring back shade, oxygen, and wildlife.
- Restoring coral reefs to heal the ocean and protect marine life.
- Educating local schools and running creative community projects to reduce plastic pollution.
Gili Reef Guardians
Over the past three decades, the world has lost nearly half of its coral reefs due to global warming, pollution, and overfishing.
When the coral dies, so does marine life — fish, anemones, crustaceans, and countless other species lose their homes.
Coral reefs are the rainforests of the ocean, but today they are bleaching — turning ghostly white as warmer waters create unsafe conditions for them to survive. Once the corals bleach, they overheat, weaken, and eventually die, leaving behind lifeless seascapes where vibrant ecosystems once thrived.
